The Economy
HoloMuck has attempted to form what resembles a working economy, instead
of wizards simply giving out dollars, or Muckers writing programs to
create unlimited cash. We feel that this will add a great deal to the
realism and enjoyment of the game.
All players start with $100 and the economy will allow them to
increase and spend their money according to what they wish to do.
Currently these are the following ways to make/exchange money on
HoloMuck:
- Paychecks. Players are currently receiving a $50 weekly
paycheck, which should be plenty. Paychecks are given only to
those players who've connected during the previous week.
- Businesses. If you own a business that sells goods,
entertainment, or services, you will receive money for those services
and players will have to pay for them. (There are several programs in
the library to help maintain a store, charge entrance fees, etc.)
- Gambling. There is a casino at 200 W. Main St, with others
scattered about, set up so that players may gamble their way to
riches or the poor house. Since money may be hard to come by, this
will be similar in risk to true gambling.
- Gifts. Of course, players will still be able to give money
to one another. Ask around, maybe someone hit the jackpot and has a
surplus!
- Bank interest. There are two banks operating in HoloMUCK.
Both offer interest for investing your money in them.
- Questing. Throughout the game there will be areas which
you can find which will contain cash bonuses. Find them and the money
is yours! (Soon, a 'quest board' will be set up in City Hall to
announce all available quests.)
- Walking. Simply walking around will find you money on a
random basis. If you walk around a lot, you may find enough to gamble
for more. :)
- Grant money. Chancellors might be talked into helping out
worthwhile, public development projects by donating grant money. They are
even more desperate to contract MUF projects out to good programmers!
